KANCHANABURI: Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary chief Wichien Chinnawong and his team accepted a surprise mission on their way to meet police on the illegal poaching case.
While riding in a pickup truck from their office to Thong Pha Phum police station about 80 kilometres away, a villager from Ban Klity requested an emergency lift: his pregnant wife, Mayuree Rattanaborisud, was due to deliver a baby, and needed to get to the hospital.
Twenty minutes into the journey, Mrs Maruyee told deputy park chief Piyapong Suebsaen, who was driving, "I cannot stand it, chief."
Mr Piyapong pulled over the vehicle and the team helped the woman safely deliver a baby girl. They then continued their trip - with a new passenger - to Thong Pha Phum hospital in Thong Pha Phum district.
Their story was posted on the Facebook account of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Conservation, and it drew mass applause from followers.
Mr Wichien later met with police to give more details on the poaching case involving Italian-Thai Development president Premchai Karnasuta and three other persons last month.
