The cabinet on Tuesday gave a green light on the waiver of toll collection on two motorways for eight days during Songkran to ease traffic during the water festival.

The two motorways that fees will be waived are Highway 7 Bangkok-Pattaya and Highway 9 Bang Pa In-Bang Phli (Highway No.9) from 12.01am of April 11 to midnight of April 18, said Col Athisit Chainuwat, assistant spokesman to the Office of the Prime Minister, citing cabinet approval for the lifting of the fees.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said the fees will be waived for vehicles using the two motorways during the festival to facilitate motorists and ease traffic congestion during the long holiday.

The Expressway Authority of Thailand plans to seek cabinet approval to waive fees on its Buraphawithee expressway (Bang Na-Chon Buri ) during Songkran. The proposal has already been approved by the Exat board, Thai media reported.
