SA KAEO: Twelve people were injured when a chartered bus taking a group of lecturers from Maha Sarakham Rajabhat University on a study tour to Chanthaburi collided with a truck loaded with fish at an intersection in Khlong Hat district early on Sunday, police said.

Pol Capt Rungroj Chaoyotha, a Khong Hat police duty officer, said the accident occurred at about 3.30am at the Khlong Hat intersection.

He said the teaching staff, led by Wuthipol Chatcharatkul, deputy rector of Maha Sarakham Rajabhat University, were on their way to study the work of a teachers' cooperative in Chanthaburi province. When the bus was passing the Khlong Hat intersection, it collided with the fish truck.

The impact caused the bus to skid off the road and hit a 7-Eleven convenience store. Twelve people, six men and six women, were injured. A motorcycle parked in front of the shop was damaged. The injured were admitted to Khlong Hat Hospital.

It was unclear whether all of the injured were university lecturers.

Police were investigating the accident.

Residents in the area said accidents frequently happened at this intersection because it has no traffic lights.
