Migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar who have yet to register with the Labour Ministry's one-stop service (OSS) centres must do so online as the facilities are now running at full capacities on the last day of the registration on Saturday.

Some 1.4 million migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar applied as of Saturday morning.

Of the total, 1.2 million have already been registered. Since the centres need time to process the remaining 180,000 people on the last day today, the ministry urged those who have not yet applied to do so online at the ministry mobile-friendly website www.express.doe.go.th before midnight on Saturday.

After registering online, they will receive a text message of their registration schedules to take place before June 31.

Thai media reported migrant workers are not happy with the online-only decision. Failing to be registered by March 31 as required by law means their working visas would expire. As a result, they could not leave Thailand for the Songkran holidays in their home countries if they want to keep their jobs.

Migrant workers are required to register by Saturday under the new labour law. Failure to do so would result in a fine of 5,000 to 50,000 baht each for workers and 10,000 to 100,000 per worker for employers. Repeated offences by employers would result in a fine of 50,000 to 200,000 baht and a fine not more than one year for each worker and a ban on migrant employment.

Successfully registered workers can work in Thailand until March 31, 2020.
