PHANGNGA: Two speedboats caught fire at a pier in Thai Muang district on Wednesday, with three boat attendants injured.

Police received reports on the boat incident at the Por Duang Thaweeporn 1 pier in tambon Thab Lamu at about 11am, said Pol Cap Jaran Srirak from the Thai Muang police station.

They saw the boats on fire when they arrived at the scene. Firefighters successfully put out the flames.

The local disaster-mitigation office reported that the fire started on Da Marine speedboat while attendants were checking it.

Earlier, the boat left the Thab Lamu pier with tourists for the Similan islands but made a U-turn due to an engine problem. Tourists were moved to another boat. The defective boat was then brought to the Por Duang Thaweeporn 1 fish pier for a check.

The fire later spread to the Da Marine 1 boat docked next to it.

The three injured people are two Thais and a Myanmar worker.

The injured were sent to Thai Muang Hospital and a naval hospital in Phangnga. Police were investigating the cause.
