A 55-year-old woman has complained to Pathum Thani police after finding worms in a tin of canned fish she opened to use when preparing dinner on Sunday evening.

Navaporn Maethanapreeya turned up at Pratunam Chulalongkorn police station in Thanyaburi district around 8pm with four cans of fish she bought from a hypermarket in Rangsit area in early March.

She said when she bought the package the four cans were not misshapen. The expiry date on the cans was Oct 30, 2020.

Ms Navaporn said she found many worms in a can she opened while preparing her Sunday evening meal.  She phoned the company supplying the canned fish, and was told staff would be sent to inspect the products.

She decided to go to Don Muang police station, which is close to her house, to file a report, but officers there asked her to report to Pratunam Chulalongkorn police station, which has jurisdiction over the area where she bought the fish.

Ms Navaporn said the report she filed with police would be used to petition the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) to examine the products.

She could not afford to ignore the incident because many people eat canned fish and they may fail to examine the contents closely and consume parasites, which would be a health risk.

Ms Navaporn said she would not buy canned fish anymore, and would petition the OCPB in a few days.
