63 foreigners, Thai caught in X-ray Outlaw net

A total of 64 people, foreign nationals and one Thai, were caught in coordinated raids led by immigration police on 125 locations across the country in the early hours of Friday.

Most were from Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Russia and African countries.

Five of the suspects (from Laos, India, Vietnam, Russia and Myanmar) were charged with overstaying their visas, and 51 (30 from Myanmar, 10 from Cambodia, 8 from Laos, and one each from India, Vietnam and Sierra Leone) were charged with illegal entry. 

The eight others (two from Nigeria, two from India, one each from China, Myanmar, Ghana and Thailand) were charged with other offences, Tourist Police Bureau deputy chief  Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn said.

The raids were the 10th phase of operation X-Ray Outlaw Foreigner. Officers from the Central Investigation Bureau, Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Tourist Police Bureau, Patrol and Special Operation Division,  Immigration Office and Huai Khwang police were involved, Pol Maj Gen Surachate said,

They targeted seven international schools, 15 language schools, 45 secondary schools and 58 other places.

To date, 1,088 illegal foreigners have been apprehended at 3,372 locations nationwide.
