SAMUT PRAKAN: A driver was crushed to death while changing a wheel after the six-wheeled bus he had driven toppled on Sukhumvit Soi 72 in tambon Samrong Nua of Muang district Friday morning.

The incident happened in front of a Shell petrol station on the middle inbound lane of Sukhumvit Road at about 7am.

The body of driver Boonplook Nuamson, 51, was found under the right rear part of the bus. A right rear wheel of the bus was missing.

Police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the driver was using a jack to lift the vehicle for the wheel replacement. As the vehicle was being lifted, it tilted and the weight pressured and burst other rear wheels, causing the bus to topple on the driver.

Police found that a right rear wheel had earlier been loosened from the bus because its bolts were snapped. The wheel hit and damaged a car.
