KHON KAEN: Thick smoke from burning roadside grass cut visibility and was blamed for a crash involving 10 vehicles in Muang district on Wednesday. Nine people were injured.

The multiple collisions occurred around noon on Maliwan Road about 5km from Ban Fang hospital, said Pol Col Pakphum Pitsamai, chief of Ban Phed police station in Muang district.

Both sedans and pickup trucks were involved, and some vehicles plunged into a roadside ditch. Thick smoke blanketed the area, severely limiting visibility.

Nine injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Pol Col Pakphum said it was not yet known exactly where the fire began, but it was suspected to have been caused by a discarded burning cigarette. Police were investigating.
