SONGKHLA: A Malaysian man fell to his death from a hotel in downtown Hat Yai district on Saturday morning.
The body of Kong Soon Keong, 29, in his underwear was found stuck in an air-ventilation chute on the second-floor balcony of an adjacent six-storey commercial building on Saturday morning.
The man was believed to have fallen from room No.804 on the eighth floor of Golden Crown Grand Hotel on Niphat Uthit 3 Road in the business area of Hat Yai, said Pol Lt Col Warodom Kongsuwankhiri, investigation chief at Hat Yai police station, who was alerted at around 9am.
Hotel clerks said the man arrived at the hotel on Friday in a group of 15, who stayed in five rooms. He shared a room with four others in the group.
They went out to dine and drink at a restaurant nearby and returned to the hotel at around 1am. His friends who shared the same room claimed to be asleep and knew nothing about the incident. His pants were found in the room.
The owner of a room at the commercial building told police that he heard a loud thud at around 3am but did not come out to check as things often fell from the hotel onto his building. When he opened the curtain and the door of his room on the second floor on Saturday morning, he was shocked to see the body of the man on the balcony of the room.
Police will send the body to Hat Yai Hospital for a post-mortem examination to find out the cause of death.
