AYUTTHAYA: A 6-year-old girl was accidentally run over and killed by a tuk-tuk driven by her mother after falling off the vehicle in Wang Noi district on Thursday afternoon.

Police said that, around 4.00pm on Thursday, the 44-year-old mother, a Cambodian identified as Je, drove the three wheeled vehicle to collect her daughter from school in tambon Wangchula and take her home.

Ms Je makes a living hawking goods around the area from the tuk-tuk.

The girl was sitting with her mother on the driver's seat when she fell from the vehicle. Her mother was unable to stop in time to prevent one of the rear wheels running over her daughter, who sustained severe head injuries, police said.

The girl was rushed to Wang Noi Hospital where she later died.

During questioning at Wang Noi police station, Ms Je and her Thai husband were grief-stricken.

Her husband also became angry and tried to hurt her. Police stepped in and stopped him.

Police charged Ms Je with reckless driving causing death.

They were considering granting Ms Je temporary release so she could arrange proper funeral rites for her deceased daugther.
