CHAI NAT: A man who had lost his savings on the stock market was found dead with a severe shotgun wound to his chest at his home in Sankhaburi district on Monday.

Police were informed about 9am that the body of Thaweesak Thienngam, 37, was lying face up behind his home in Moo 14 village of tambon Phraek Siracha. There were about 10 pellet holes in his chest.

Both hands had gunpowder stains. A locally made shotgun pistol was about three metres away and a 12-gauge shotgun cartridge was beside the body.

Thaweesak's father Khetrat Thienngam, 62, handed to police a note from his son saying how depressed he had been feeling.

He said his son had a computer shop in Rangsit area of Pathum Thani province but shut it down about nine months ago because of money problems.

Thaweesak had returned home to Chai Nat, where he invested the last of his savings in the stock market and lost nearly 1 million baht. After the loss, his son had complained about feeling stressed and suffering headaches, Mr Khetrat said.

His son went to bed as usual on Sunday. Mr Khetrat said he was woken by a loud noise about 3am.

He thought it was a car tyre bursting nearby and went back to sleep. He found his son's body in the morning. He believed his son had shot himself.

Police were awaiting the autopsy report.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand index has fallen from over 1,800 points in January to around 1,600 points this month.
