Two killed in Surat Thani accident

SURAT THANI: A female dramatic arts student and a man were killed in an accident in Muang district early Sunday.

The accident took place about 10 minute after midnight when a Honda Accord skidded off the road, ran onto the median strip of Highway 44 (Krabi-Kanchanadit) and rammed into a tree, said Pol Lt Col Somsak Rattanaphan, a Khun Thalay police investigator.

The impact caused the car to burst in flames. A fire engine from the Surat Thani Municipality was able to put out the fire in about 20 minutes, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Two charred bodies were extracted from the wreck of the car.  One of them was a young woman. An ID card found on her identified her as Praonapa Klaewkla, 22, a student of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Dramatic Arts College. The other was a man who was still unidentified as his ID was burned in the fire.

Police were investigating the accident. It was initially revealed that the car was heading for Kanchanadit district at a high speed when the accident occurred.
