People living along coasts of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand should beware inshore surges, isolated heavy rain and possible flash floods during July 8-12, the Thai Meteorological Department said in its 5am announcement on Sunday.

The department said the strong southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. From Sunday to Wednesday, waves in the Andaman are expected to be 2-3 metres high, while waves in the upper Gulf of Thailand north of Surat Thani province could top 2 metres.

All vessels should proceed with caution, while small boats should remain ashore.

Isolated heavy rain is forecast over the South. Residents along the coasts of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand should watch for inshore surges and possible flash floods, said the department.
