PATTAYA: The driver of a passenger van was found crushed to death between the open driver's door and a structural support at a parking lot early on Thursday morning.

The body of Prasert Jenchad, 50, was found half-in, half-out of the Bangkok-Pattaya van at a shopping centre in South Pattaya in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri, about 12.30am.

The body was squeezed between the open driver's door and a steel pole supporting the car park roof. His upper torso rested inside the cab.

Police called to the scene reported the gear lever was in neutral. It appeared that the van had moved, trapping Prasert against the pole as he was either entering or leaving the vehicle.

Another van driver, Somsak Songsook, said the van had a transmission problem, and he suspected that was the cause of the fatal accident.
