CHON BURI: About 10,000 runners from all over the world took part in the 27th Pattaya Marathon 2018 on Sunday morning, starting from Pattaya beach.
Chon Buri governor Pakarathorn Thienchai presided over the marathon's opening ceremony, attended by Pattaya City officials and a large number of Pattaya residents as well as tourists.
The runners included both Thais and foreigners, including participants from Laos, China, Japan, Ethiopia, Kenya and the United States.
The tournament was divided into five categories - the 42.195km marathon, a 21.100km half-marathon, 10.550km quarter-marathon, a 3.7km wheelchair race and 3.7km "fun run".
Bernard Kiplangat Kibilo from Kenya clocked two hours, 44 minutes and 15 seconds to clinch victory in the male marathon, winning 25,000 baht prize money and a trophy from Pattaya City. The winner in the female marathon was Abtew Wubhareg Ayalew from Ethiopia with a time of 03.19.36. She also received 25,000 baht prize money and a trophy.
In the male half-marathon category, Thai runner Nathawat Innoom came first, winning 10,000 baht prize money. The winner in the female half-marathon category was Cynthia Chelangat from Kenya, who also received 10,000 baht prize money.
The male quarter-marathon was won by a Thai runner named Cherchai. In the female quarter-marathon, the winner was Lodkeo Inthakoumman from Laos.
