Conscript cries foul over chicken farm duties

Action must be taken against a senior officer who ordered conscripts to raise chickens on his farm, according to the Thai Constitution Protection Association.

The group's secretary-general, Srisuwan Janya, said it would register complaints with the National Anti-Corruption Commission, the Ombudsman and the National Human Rights Commission today in a bid to punish the officer.

The move comes after a video clip was posed on social media on Friday by a man claiming to be a conscript at Thanarat Camp in Pranburi district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The 11-minute video featured a chicken farm where he said he and other soldiers were ordered by his supervising officer to live and take care of the birds. He expressed frustration at being assigned such work.

"I am a conscript and willing to undergo military training. But instead I am having to raise chickens," he said. "I'm willing to be a soldier, but all I get is a scolding."

The officer and farm were not identified.
