Sixty former nursing students of the Christian University of Thailand in Nakhon Pathom province have filed a lawsuit with the Central Administrative Court, demanding 300,000-480,000 baht in compensation from the university for fraud.

They said the university admitted 360 students to its College of Nursing in the 2017 academic year.

The university announced the list of admitted students on May 18, 2017, and the students paid for their course in the same year.

It was not until earlier this year when applicants to the nursing college sought admission for the 2018 academic year that current students learned that the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council had not certified the school's nursing curriculum.

Back in May 2017, the council had urged the university to stop its admission process but the university did nothing.

The council and the Office of the Higher Education Commission have already confirmed to the students that the college's nursing curriculum is not certified, meaning its students would not be either.

The 60 complainants subsequently left the university, found new schools and decided to embark on the legal action.

Some students said they had wasted two years because earlier this year the university's management had promised to acquire certification for their curriculum but admitted last month they could not get it.

The students said each of them had paid tuition fees of over 100,000 baht a year.
