SURAT THANI: Fifteen passengers were injured when a tour bus heading from Bangkok to Phuket overturned in Khirirat Nikhom district of this southern province on Sunday morning, police said.

The accident occurred at about 4.15am at kilometre marker 45 near Ban Khlong Khan in tambon Tham Niap.

Uthai Somkantha, 30, the driver, said the double-decker air-conditioned bus left Bangkok at 7pm on Saturday with 29 passengers, heading for Phuket. At Ban Khlong Khan, he lost control of the bus at a sharp bend on the wet and slippery road, causing the vehicle to tip over and end up on its side.

Fifteen passengers were injured and admitted to Khirirat Nikhom Hospital. Seven of them were later transferred to Surat Thani Hospital and four to Phuket Hospital, while the other four were released.
