Vajiralongkorn dam extends current water discharge rate until Sept 3

KANCHANABURI: Following more heavy rain, the Vajiralongkorn dam in Thong Pha Phum district of this western province will continue to discharge water at the rate of 53 million cubic metres per day until Sept 3, dam director Waiwit Saengpanich said on Sunday.

Mr Waiwit said he had sent a letter on behalf of the governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to the chief of the disaster prevention and mitigation office in Kanchanaburi, in order to allow him to take proper precautions.

According to a previous plan, the Vajiralongkorn dam was to discharge 53 million cu/m per day between Aug 23-27. However, since a high volume of water has continued to enter the dam, he said, it is necessary to prolong this rate of discharge until Sept 3.

The water discharge rate will be adjusted according to changes in the volume of  water, Mr Waiwit said.

He reaffirmed that the dam is still operating at its highest safety level.
