Police seize 8,600 fake North Korea banknotes worth B1.57m

CHON BURI: Police have arrested six suspects with fake North Korean banknotes amounting to 43 million won (1.57 million baht).

Pol Col Pattana Preechanan, the chief investigator of Chon Buri police, said on Sunday police had impersonated a currency trader to buy the counterfeit money from the suspects in Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri.

The six were arrested with 86,000 North Korean banknotes in denominations of 5,000 won. 

The arrest followed a complaint to Chon Buri police from someone who had bought 900 North Korean banknotes from the suspects and found out later that all were fake.

The suspects were identified as Natthapapakorn Inghiranporn, 36, Anupong Pattaraparn, 51, Preecha Thanuwat, 59, Supachakan Rapeerat, 45, Sumet Raknoi, 45, and Chanasorn Khantiyu 60.
