Piya Yodmani has resigned as chief executive officer of Nok Air after 11 months in charge of the airline.

Mr Piya's resignation was approved by the board of directors, effective last Thursday, Nok Air chairman Prasert Bunsumpun said on Monday.

Mr Piya also quit the company board and from all other committees of the company, Mr Prasert said.

The announcement said that over the past 11 months, Mr Piya had been dedicated to implementing the airline's business turnaround plan, with achievements including the significant improvement of on-time performance, which rose to 88% in July.

Mr Prasert said Mr Piya decided to leave after he realised that all key senior executive positions at the company which were left vacant earlier had now been filled, which will allow the management team to focus on pushing ahead with the plans for the airline's future growth.

The board appointed Pravej Ongartsittigul, a director and chairman of the executive committee of Nok Air, who has worked closely with the management over the past 11 months, the acting CEO.
