The 12 footballers who made global headlines after being trapped in Tham Luang cave have returned to training sessions.

The members of the Wild Boars (Moo Paa) Academy club have been in soccer training since Thursday at at Mae Sai Prasitsart School in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai, the public relations office of the province said on its Facebook account.

It was the first training sessions since the youngsters and their coach, Ekkapol Chanthawong, were rescued from the cave in July. The boys and their trainer were marooned inside the cave for almost two weeks after floodwaters followed them inside after a practice session on June 23.

The coach also rejoined them for the practice, saying the club trusted him to train the boys.

Mr Ekkapol left Wat Phra That Doi Wao in Mae Sai on Sept 8, where he had been in the monkhood since July 24 to show his appreciation to all the rescuers who had saved their lives - including Saman Kunan, a former Navy Seal diver who lost his own during the international operations.

The boys returned to their schools on Aug 6. They also attended a gala dinner at the Royal Plaza in Bangkok on Sept 6 to thank all the local and international rescue volunteers.

The boys and coach are members of the Wild Boars academy, which supports young people of various age groups to play football and compete in contests in Chiang Rai and nearby provinces in the northern region.
