Two Thais and officials who allegedly helped them enter a restricted zone at Suvarnabhumi airport so they could be the first to greet a visiting South Korean star on Friday night will face serious charges.

Sirote Duangrat, director of Suvarnabhumi airport, said on Monday closed-circuit TV footage showed two outsiders went through a lane where airport security cards were required to a restricted area.

Further checks found they had used the security cards of customs officials working in the Free Zone and were led by a customs official.

“We know the name of the collaborating customs official and have filed complaints with airport police,” he said.

The pair were accused of trespassing at night, punishable by five years in prison and/or a fine not more than 100,000 baht.

The two customs officials whose cards were used by the pair are being questioned. If they are found to have collaborated, they too will face charges.

“We have also invalidated their cards and they have been banned from entering the airport. We will also inform the Suvarnabhumi Airport Cargo Clearance Bureau in writing,” he said, referring to the unit the customs officials were attached to.

The two persons, allegedly impersonating as customs officials, entered immigration, a restricted area at the airport, at 9.10pm on Friday.

One of them, a woman, later posted on Facebook: “Thanks friend for finding out about Lee Jong-suk’s flight and having officials take me inside. I was the first to shake hands with Lee Jong-suk. I won’t wash my hands.”

She also posted a photo of herself with a description: “before I changed into pants and impersonated as a customs official.”

Her posts brought criticism about appropriateness and raised questions about security measures at the international airport.
