PHUKET: A Chinese crewman is being treated in hospital for injuries sustained after he fell from the deck of a Chinese cargo ship off the coast of Phuket on Saturday morning.

The Third Naval Area immediately dispatched the patrol boat Tor 233 after being alerted about the incident at around 8am. Navy officers and rescue workers proceeded to Koh Mai Ton, where the Chinese-registered cargo ship Ever Progress was moored.

They were responding to a call from Tao Zeyang, the captain of the cargo ship. He had sought help from the BKK RCC coastal rescue centre, which alerted the Naval Area operational centre.

The crewman was found to have sustained unspecified injuries from the fall from the deck. The patrol boat took him to shore at around 11am and he was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for treatment.
