Air-con bus fares to rise ฿2

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will raise air-conditioned bus fares by two baht from 11-23 baht a trip to 13-25 baht on Oct 15, cancelling out the two-baht fare reduction in February 2015.

Acting BMTA director-general Prayoon Chuaikaeo said on Tuesday the new fares were in line with an earlier resolution of the Transport Ministry's land transport control committee that set the fares of air-con buses in greater Bangkok at 13-25 baht.

Fares had been cut by two baht in February 2015 to help reduce people's cost of living, he said.

The BMTA would now raise fares back to the set rate as it was rehabilitating its business and replacing old air-con buses with new ones.

The new buses had lower floors, surveillance cameras, GPS systems and ramps to cater for wheelchairs, to better serve all commuters, Mr Prayoon said.
