Korean fugitive nabbed in Bangkok

A South Korean man wanted in his home country for public fraud has been arrested in a police raid on a hotel room in Bangkok.

A combined team of tourist and immigration police arrested Jin Weon-seo at the Rider Resort Hotel on Srinakarin Soi 49 in the Nong Bon area of Prawet district, on Wednesday, Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn, acting commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, said on Friday.

Mr Jin, 60, was wanted on four arrest warrants issued in his country for fraud with damages totalling 132 million won (3.8 million baht). he was said to have fled to Thailand via a natural border area.

While in Thailand, he was alleged to have swindled money out of some Thai businessmen by duping them into investing in hotels and golf courses in Bangkok, Chon Buri and Phuket, said Pol Maj Gen Surachate.

Officers initially pressed illegal entry charges against him.
