The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) committee will add human resources and education development to the 11 S-curve target industries previously selected.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who chairs the committee, had approved the addition, Kanit Sangsubhan, secretary-general of the EEC Office, said on Friday.
The S-curve already comprises 11 targeted industries: next-generation cars; smart electronics; affluent, medical and wellness tourism; agriculture and biotechnology; food; robotics for industry; logistics and aviation; biofuels and biochemicals; digital; medical services; and defence.

The addition will bring the total to 12.
Speaking after the committee's 5th meeting, Mr Kanit said they had approved six major infrastructure development projects - the high-speed railway linking three airports, the U-Tapao airport and aviation city, the U-Tapao maintenance and repair project, the Laem Chabang seaport project, the third phase of the Map Ta Phut seaport project, and the Eastern Economic Corridor of Digital project (EECD).
The committee also approved a strategic cooperation framework for related agencies to integrate their efforts to push for the EEC, and the Budget Bureau would allocate 14.86 billion baht under the fiscal 2019 fiscal draft bill to 14 ministries involved, Thai media reported.
The EEC is the government’s flagship policy to create special economic zones spanning 30,000 rai in the three eastern provinces of Chon Buri, Rayong and Chachoengsao.
