Prachuap Khiri Khan province in the lower Central region and Chumphon in the upper South are still ravaged by flooding with three people reported killed, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department director-general Chayapol Thitisak said on Sunday.
Mr Thitisak said as a result of the strong monsoon across the lower South during Nov 7-11, flash floods and river overflows occurred in Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces in the lower Central and Chumphon in the upper South.
The situation has eased in Phetchaburi, but parts of Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon are still inundated.
In Prachuap Khiri Khan, flooding in Bang Saphan Noi, Bang Saphan, Thap Sakae and Muang districts has affected over 10,000 people in 129 villages. One person was reported killed. The water is now receding.
In Chumphon, 472 villages in 60 tambons of Pathiu, Sawi, Muang, Lang Suan, Thung Tako, Tha Sae and La Mae districts have been ravaged by flash floods with 36,315 people affected. Two villagers were reported killed and 65 schools, 65 roads, 56 bridges and 4,235 rai of farmland damaged. The water is now receding.
Mr Chayapol said officials and soldiers have deployed disaster relief equipment to drain water from flooded areas. Survival kits and basic necessities have been distributed to flood-hit villagers.
