PATTAYA: A shirtless Norwegian man was found hanging from the rooftop of a 31-storey condominium building off Beach Road on Wednesday.

Police were called to Northshore Condominium on Soi 5 off Pattaya's Beach Road in tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri, about 10am, when the body was noticed.

The 69-year-old was hanging by a nylon rope around his neck against the outside wall of the highrise, 3-4 metres below the rooftop. The other end of the rope was tied to a fire hydrant.

Police took about three hours to retrieve the body, which was dressed only in a pair of shorts. There were bloodstains on the body and on the rooftop.

Police also found a letter written in Norwegian and two chopping blocks, one with a metre-long steel pipe attached to it, on the rooftop.

The man was the tenant of a room on the 23rd floor of the condominium.

Police thought it might be a suicide, but were investigating further.

The man's name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
