Activists claim to have evidence against gynaecologist

Women's rights activists claim to have evidence substantiating charges against a gynaecologist in Nakhon Sawan accused of sexually abusing a patient during a check-up at his clinic.

Saranya Wangsukcharoen, alias lawyer Nida, said on Friday she had a copy of a bank transfer slip for 300,000 baht wired from an account in the accused gynaecologist's name. The woman patient who alleged she was assaulted by the doctor had not withdrawn the money.

There was also an audio clip of a conversation between the victim and the gynaecologist, heard admitting in the recording he had sexually abused her, lawyer Nida said.

She maintained there was sufficient evidence to support charges against the doctor. However, the information that several other female patients had also been abused by the same doctor was even more worrying, she said.

“We have obtained information that the doctor allegedly sexually abused several female patients,  and  had paid compensation to them to avoid legal action.

"He allegedly also used sexually offensive language when addressing several nursing students. We want the victims to stand up and fight," Ms Saranya said.

The scandal came to light when Ms Saranya posted a message on her Facebook page accusing the doctor of sexually abusing a 29-year-old patient during a gynaecological check-up at his clinic in Nakhon Sawan.

The doctor turned himself in at Muang district police station in Nakhon Sawan on Thursday afternoon. He denied two charges -- committing an indecent act and sexually abusing a female patient.

Actress Pannada "Boom" Wongphudee, head of the Do Good Things Organisation (Ongkorn Tham Dee) said on Friday that she had her received the complaint from the woman patient. After looking into the complaint, she believed the allegation had grounds. She then forwarded the case to lawyer Nida.

She urged any other women who felt they had been preyed on by the doctor to come forward and file complaints. She offered to lead them in the fight against him.

The accused gynaecologist has not been named. He was reported to be 53 years old.

Saranya Wangsukcharoen, alias lawyer Nida, posted this Line chat message between the woman patient and the accused gynaecologist. The patient asked why he inserted a phallic object wrapped in a condom into her vagina. The doctor claimed it was a device that releases "happiness hormones" that relieve  pain.
