NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A teenage girl and a three-year-old boy she was carrying were killed by a special express train on a railway track in Huai Thalaeng district late Monday night.

The crash occurred in front of Huai Thalaeng railway station at around 11pm, causing panic among passengers and visitors to a shrine fair in front of the station.

Police and rescue workers found the bodies of the 17-year-old girl, later identified as Thippawan Chomchuen, and the 3-year-old boy, Suparat Sura, both of Huai Thalaeng's Ban Buruesee village, under the Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani special express train No.024.

Local witnesses told police that the two victims and 7-8 neighbours were visiting the fair in front of the railway station before the fatal crash. The girl then headed home across three double tracks in front of the station, carrying her sleeping cousin on her shoulder.

As the two were crossing the third track, they were crushed to death by the special train travelling at high speed.

Rescue workers took their bodies for autopsies at a local hospital.
