The cabinet has approved a maximum 15,000-baht income tax deduction for purchases of tyres, books and One Tambon One Product (Otop) items between Dec 15 and Jan 16 next year.
Nattaporn Jatusripitak, an adviser to the Office of the Prime Minister, said the tax break was approved during Tuesday's regular cabinet meeting. The purpose was to boost demand for agricultural produce, encourage human resource development via book learning, and generate community income.
He said taxpayers can claim a deduction on purchases of up to 15,000 baht in total of tyres, books and Otop products between Dec 15 and Jan 16.
The specific products are: Otop items registered with the Community Development Department; books or e-books, but not magazines and newspapers; and tyres produced by businesses registered for value-added tax and the manufacturers or suppliers buy raw materials from the Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAT), Mr Nattaporn said.
“The RAT will give coupons to shops. The tax break scheme will kick off on Dec 15. Charges for changing the wheel and tyre balancing are also not included in the 15,000 baht tax deduction,’’ Mr Nattaporn said.
