NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: The body of a missing teenager was found on Tuesday, two days after he and two friends were swept off their bicycles by a torrent of floodwater.
Udomporn Kan, the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation chief, said Supachai Chaikong, 14, was found in a small canal in Cha-uat district.
The boy had set out with two friends on two bicycles to watch the floodwater near their homes on Sunday.
As they cycled along a road, surging run-off knocked them off their bicycles and swept them away. His friends survived, but they lost sight of Supachai in the swiftly flowing current.
A search was quickly launched, but no sign was seen of him until his body was found on Tuesday.
Searchers were still looking for a 70-year-old man, missing since he went fishing in Ron Phibun district over the weekend.
Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani were the two southern provinces hardest hit by floods over the weekend and into Monday.
The situation has now improved in the two provinces, with water levels in both municipalities dropping. (continues below)

Flooding also damaged the railway track to Nakhon Si Thammarat, forcing the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to terminate trains heading south to Nakhon Si Thammarat station at Thung Song junction in Thung Song district over the past two days.
The SRT announced on Tuesday that normal services were resuming.
