TRAT: A drug dealer who phoned his regular supplier to place an order on Monday soon found himself wearing handcuffs when he went to pick it up in the early hours of Tuesday.

Unbeknown to him, his supplier and another dealer had been arrested.

Trat police had earlier called a news conference at the provincial police office in Muang district on Monday to show off two key drug dealers they had caught, Sorasak Chaiya and Jakkrit Chanthaklom.

Shortly before it started, Pornthep Singbandan called Mr Sorasak's phone to place an order.

Police abruptly cancelled the news briefing and hatched a plan to arrest him.

Trat police chief Pol Maj Gen Prasan Boonmuen said police staked out the house in Khao Saming district where the drugs were to be delivered and arrested Mr Pornthep when he showed up at 3am.

A new press briefing was arranged on Tuesday,  and this time Mr Pornthep was there alongside his two associates.

All three were charged with possessing and selling crystal meth and amphetamine pills.
