SUPHAN BURI: A 2-year-old Myanmar boy missing for nine days was found dead in a sugarcane field in U Thong district on Tuesday. He was believed to have died from exhaustion.
Suphan Buri governor Nimit Wanchaithanawong on Tuesday ordered some 700 rescuers to comb through the sugarcane plantation for traces of the missing boy.
Salui Piew, a son of migrant workers from Myanmar, went missing on Dec 17 when he went out to play near the sugarcane plantation where his parents worked.
At around 4.30pm, rescuers found the body of Salui inside the plantation, about 5km away from the spot where he went missing, Thai media reported.
The body was being taken for an autopsy.
Four elephants mounted by their mahouts had joined the search for the missing boy. The search involved hundreds of volunteer rescue workers, police and soldiers who have been deployed to search an 80-acre field around 2m-high sugarcane plants.
