Chiang Mai: A man previously convicted of killing his stepfather has been caught and charged with raping his own mother in Doi Saket district, according to provincial police.
Chaiya Tana, 31, was arrested yesterday in a rice field about a kilometre from his home in Talad Khilek village, said Provincial Police Region 5.
Police pounced on the man as he was having a meal, following a tip-off from local residents.
He appeared exhausted after being on the run for more than a month, according to police.
Chaiya went into hiding after allegedly assaulting and raping his mother at their home on Dec 11 last year.
He was immediately taken to Doi Saket Hospital for a check-up before being remanded in police custody at Mae Pong police station.
Police said Chaiya told investigators he could not remember what happened on Dec 11.
Provincial police said local residents were fearful while Chaiya was on the run as he had been convicted of killing his stepfather when he was a teenager. He did not serve time for that as he was a minor. He had since served prison time for a string of offences, police said.
He was also often seen drunk and carrying a gun.
