CSD shuts illegal sports betting site

The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) is hunting Thai and foreign suspects who are believed to be behind a multi-million-baht online gambling ring that was busted in a recent raid.

Five men and three women were arrested when CSD officers raided a three-storey townhouse on Boromratchonnanee Road in Bangkok's Bang Phlat district.

The suspects, who were accepting bets from gamblers on football matches, denied knowing their bosses, investigators said. They claimed to have been hired only to facilitate bets, and said that their wages were taken care of by a person they do not know.

Investigators said the illegal business has been running since 2017, and it counts Thais and foreigners as its investors. The business offers a range of gaming activities that range from baccarat to sport bets.

The ring acquires its customers through the Line chat application and Facebook, and handles "several million baht a month", said Central Investigation Bureau deputy chief Pol Maj Gen Aphichat Sirisit on Monday.
