KANCHABURI: A Malaysian tourist riding through the province in a group of big bikes died after a collision with an elderly local motorcyclist on Sunday.

Mohammad Khir, 53, was pronounced dead at Makarak Hospital in Tha Maka district after succumbing to his injuries, including the loss of his right leg.

Police were informed of the accident at a U-turn on Saeng Chuto Road in Ban Nong Ree of Tha Ruea Phra Thaen municipality in Tha Maka district at about 4.30pm on Sunday.

The Malaysian was found unconscious near his wrecked BMW 1200 motorcycle. His right leg had been ripped off, and his left arm and leg were broken.

Nearby, police found a woman with deep cuts on her head, neck trauma and scrapes on her body, together with a locally registered Honda Click motorcycle with a damaged rear. She was identified later as Lampuan Longma, a 75-year-old local resident. She and the severely injured Malaysian were rushed to Makarak Hospital.

Other bikers in the group said a total of ten Malaysians were riding on eight big bikes on a tour of Kanchanaburi. Mohammad was riding the seventh motorcycle in the convoy when the woman suddenly rode out an alley and cut in front of him, they said.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
