Man arrested, sacks of speed pills seized in Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI: A 27-year-old man was arrested after 4 million methamphetamine pills were found in his pickup truck in Mae Sai district on Monday night.

Surachai Baechae, of tambon Walee in Mae Suai district of this northern province, was taken to a police news conference in Mae Sai district on Tuesday. 

A combined team of narcotics suppression, local police and soldiers searched a Mazda pickup truck parked in front of a commercial building on Phaholyothin Road in tambon Wiang Phang Kham around 9.30pm on Monday. An investigation had pointed to the vehicle being used for drug smuggling.

The team found 4 million methamphetamine pills inside 25 sacks on the back of the pickup.

Mr Surachai witnessed the search and was detained in police custody for legal action. Police were extending the investigation.
