One man was arrested and more than 20,000 counterfeit brand-name products worth about 16 million baht retail seized during a police raid on a house in Bangkok.

Arsang Sae Jiang, 40, of Chiang Mai’s Fang district, was detained at a house in Samae Dam area, Bang Khunthian district by Crime Suppression and Economic Crime Suppression officers.

They found and confiscated more than 20,000 items of clothing and sports shoes, all bearing fake brand names such as Nike, Under Armour, Calvin Klein, Vans, ฺฺHarley-Davidson, Balenciaga Adidas or Fila.

Many fake brand-name labels were also found there, waiting to be attached to goods.

Pol Maj Gen Apichart Sirisit, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, said investigators learned the house was used to produce pirated products which were distributed to markets and tourist venues.

Police obtained a search warrant from the Thon Buri Criminal Court and executed it on Thursday. Mr Arsang was the only person there.

Pol Maj Gen Apichart said the suspect said he was the caretaker but also confessed he was responsible for delivering counterfeit products to vendors.

He told police that a woman he knew only as Jae Muay was the owner of the goods.

She had asked him to deliver the goods to vendors in tourist provinces such as Krabi, Phangnga, Samui, and Surat Thani, and to garment shops in Bangkok, mainly in the Sukhumvit, Pratunam and Patpong areas.

Mr Arsang was held in police custody at the CSD for further interrogation. Police were extending the investigation, with the aim of arresting other members of the network and those at the very top.
