The Future Forward Party on Sunday boasted its welfare state policy will entitle all members of the public to more than twice the amount of state welfare that low-income earners currently receive.

Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit insisted the policy was realistic as the cash to fund this idea will be drained from the current armed forces weapons procurement budget.

He was speaking at a campaign event at Suan Luang Rama IX, a major park in eastern Bangkok.

The party believes in equality and its welfare state policy will ensure everyone born in Thailand will have an equal right to state welfare all their life, he said.

There will be no need to prove poverty to qualify because every citizen will be entitled equally, he said.

Parents will receive a monthly allowance of 1,200 baht until their children are six years old, he said. The current child support allowance is 600 baht a month.

For the elderly, everyone will automatically begin receiving 1,800 baht a month in living allowances when he or she reaches 60 years of age, he said.

Under the current state welfare scheme for the elderly, the monthly living allowance rates start at 600 baht.

Youths aged between 12 and 18 will also receive living allowances, he said, although he didn't specify the rate.

The Social Security System (SSS) will be expanded to cover every type of worker, including those not now considered part of the formal labour system, while the budget per capita for universal health coverage will be raised to 4,000 baht per year, he said.

For fiscal year 2019, the budget per head for the health care scheme is set at 3,426.56 baht.

In addition, maternity leave under the Future Forward Party's vision of the SSS will be expanded from 90 to 180 days, he said.
