18 hurt after bus slams into house

SA KAEO: Eighteen people where hurt when a bus lost control and ran into a house before it came to a halt in Watthana Nakhon district on Friday.

The double-decker bus was travelling from Bangkok to the Cambodian border at Aranyaprathet with 19 people aboard when it veered off the road and struck a house being used as the office of a construction firm at 8.40am, said Pol Lt Col Somchai Yura, a duty officer with the Watthana Nakhon police.

A bus attendant identified only as Dew told police that the bus owned by Juthamas Maneemetha was clipped in the front by a lorry that was trying to overtake it. Bus driver Daeng Hekhunthod could not control the vehicle and it went off the road and hit a fence.

All those injured were taken to Watthana Nakhon Hospital.

Passenger Pornsri Longphae said she was sleeping and woke up after seeing the bus was off balance. All of the passengers were thrust to the left side of the passenger compartment after the bus lost control, she added.

The passengers were travelling to shop at the Rong Kluea market and some intended to cross the border to casinos in Poipet, Cambodia.
