PRACHIN BURI: A passenger van rammed into the rear of a lorry in Si Maha Phot district of this eastern province early Sunday, wounding 12 Cambodian migrant workers and the driver, police said.

The accident occurred at about 5.30am at an intersection near Ban Krok Sombun on Highway 359 (Phanom Sarakham-Sa Kaeo) road.

The van was heading for Sa Kaeo with 12 Cambodian workers on board, police said. The workers were believed to be heading for Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province on the border with Cambodia to get their visas extended.

At the intersection, the van rammed into the rear of a lorry. The van was badly damaged.

The 12 Cambodians and Jakkrit Ketphet, 33, the Thai driver, were injured. They were admitted to Si Maha Phot Hospital for treatment.

Surapol Suwankut, 56, the lorry driver, said he stepped on the brake several times on seeing the red light, but the van ploughed into his vehicle from behind.
