Activist Srisuwan Janya has been summoned to meet the Election Commission (EC) Wednesday in response to a petition he filed against Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit.
The petition alleges Mr Thanathorn deceived the public by stating on the FFP's website that he served as the president of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) for two terms, when in fact he had never held that position.
According to Mr Srisuwan, the fact that the FFP's website displayed the information for five months after the party was endorsed by the EC on Oct 3 last year indicated an intent to mislead.
The incorrect profile has since been taken down.
On Monday, Manoon Wichiannit, the director of EC's investigation office, issued an urgent letter to Mr Srisuwan inviting him to testify in the case at the EC headquarters on Wednesday.
Mr Srisuwan, who is secretary-general of the Association for the Protection of the Constitution, also submitted a separate petition against FFP secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul.
In Mr Piyabutr's case, Mr Srisuwan claimed a summary of a gathering with voters in Sakon Nakhon province on Feb 16 implied the government looks down on Isan people.
Mr Srisuwan insists that this violated the election law that prohibits political parties from using deception, coercion, threats or slander to mislead voters.
Meanwhile, Ruangkrai Leekitwattana, a senior member of the Thai Raksa Chart Party, lodged additional documents to support the petition he earlier filed with the EC calling for Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to be disqualified as the prime ministerial candidate of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP).
He claims Gen Prayut should be disqualified because he is an incumbent state official and therefore barred under the law from entering an election.
The document Mr Ruangkrai presented to the EC came from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and contained the organisation's clarification that Gen Prayut and members of the coup-engineering council are not legally obliged to declare their assets to the NACC.
However, the NACC did not specify in the document whether Gen Prayut is a state official or not, leaving room open for a legal interpretation on the matter, according to Mr Ruangkrai
Mr Ruangkrai added he also has a letter from the Council of State, the government's legal arm, which contained evidence that Gen Prayut will continue to be a state official throughout the election.
