A couple was arrested on charges of fraud totalling 50 million baht, when they arrived Tuesday for a special court hearing about a similar charge they were already facing.

Crime Suppression Division police detained Piyaporn Saesantia, 28, and Thosaphon Boonmanut, 29, in front of the Thon Buri Special Court in Bang Bon district.

The couple, wanted on arrest warrants issued by the Min Buri Court on Sept 26 last year, are accused of luring people into investing in "Len Share", an online pyramid scheme promising an investment return of 20-50% per week.

More than 100 people had been taken in by the suspects in 2016 and 2017, with their losses totalling over 50 million baht, according to Pol Col Wichak Tarom, CSD investigation chief. The pair had earlier been charged by economic crime suppression police with similar offences that caused damages amounting to 120 million baht, said Pol Col Wichak.

CSD investigators were waiting at the Thon Buri court to arrest the couple on Tuesday, after learning they were due to report there.

During questioning, the suspects allegedly confessed that their customers had invested more than 5 million baht a day into the pyramid scheme and they had run out of money to repay the investors.

They were later handed over to Khannayao police station for legal action.
