Residents demand official review of motorway project

Residents in five provinces who claim their areas would be affected by the planned construction project of the third Bangkok Western Outer Ring Road on Tuesday submitted an official letter to the Government House complaint centre asking the government to review the project.

Chatchai Thesniyom, president of Pruksa Ville 44 in Nakhon Pathom's Sam Phran district, who represented the residents, said the affected residents live in 34 tambons in 10 districts in Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Ayutthaya provinces.

The new Outer Ring Road has a length of 98 kilometres, starting from Rama II Road in Samut Sakhon to Bang Pa-in district of Ayutthaya.

Mr Chatchai said the planned construction would cut through the residents' farming and residential areas, and that he had sought help from the government on Tuesday after finding that the project was set to cross over temples, villages and hospitals in those five provinces.

He said the construction project's consulting firm earlier stated it would avoid any further renovation or development in the sensitive residential areas of the affected provinces, but the blueprints that were provided did not reflect this statement.

"If the construction project is not aborted or reviewed, we will continue to protest against it,'' Mr Chatchai said.
