7 injured in bizarre expressway car crash

Seven people were injured in a crash on a Bangkok expressway when a car drove against the traffic flow on Monday.

Jor Sor 100 traffic radio reported that the accident involved three cars on the outbound section of Sriratch expressway near the Srinakarin exit.

A video clip posted on its website showed a white Honda driving against the traffic flow towards the expressway at the Srinakrin exit.

Pol Capt Mujarin Tanglakdee, an Expressway Police officer, said the car collided with a Toyota sedan after entering the expressway, which then smashed into a taxi, according to Daily News online.

Seven people were injured in the accident, including the driver of the Honda -- identified as Detnarong Wongmoon, 29 -- and two French tourists in the taxi, Daily News online added.

The taxi was believed to be bound for Suvarnabhumi airport when the accident took place.

All were sent to Piyavate Hospital.

Mr Detnarong, who broke both legs in the accident, told police that he had just hit several other vehicles on the main road, and in a panic decided flee onto the expressway -- against the traffic flow, Daily News online reported.
