Forty roads near the Grand Palace in Bangkok will be closed on Sunday from 4-9.30pm during a major rehearsal of the procession for His Majesty the King’s coronation ceremony.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau said the closures would include Na Phra Lan, Na Phra That, Ratchadamnoen Nai Avenue (from the Phan Phipop intersection to the Pom Padet intersection), Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue, Ratchamnoen Nok Avenue (from the Jor Por Ror intersection to the Pan Fa intersection), Sanam Chai, Lak Muang, Phra Chan, Maha Rat and Khao San Road.

The roads will be closed when the procession passes along the routes. Police will consider opening some sections that will not affect the procession in order to minimise the impact of traffic problems. All of the roads will be reopened to traffic from 9.30pm on Sunday ontwards.

Motorists travelling between the Bangkok and Thon Buri sides of the Chao Phraya River are advised to use alternative routes during the closure period.

Drivers taking the expressway exit at Yommrat or travelling from Phetchaburi and Rajavithi roads are advised to use the Krung Thon Bridge (Sang Hee) or Rama VIII Bridge. Those coming from Rama IV, Rama I and Charoen Krung roads should use the Phra Pok Klao and Memorial Bridges.

For further details, people can contact the traffic police at 1197 around the clock.
