NAKHON PHANOM: An Omani man was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a car with an alleged drink-driver behind the wheel on Tuesday night.

Pol Maj Samai Phuwong, the chief interrogator of the Ban Klang police station, said on Wednesday that Aree Abdullah, 62, died at the scene on when the motorcycle driven by his wife Chamaiporn Yodmai, 39, was hit in the rear by a car in Muang district.

The police major identified the car's driver as Thanes Srirom, 27, and said his blood alcohol measured 220mg/dL, more than four times the limit of 50.

The Omani had just returned to the northeastern province from an unidentified location and his wife was taking him on the motorcycle for dinner, according to the police.

Pol Maj Samai said driving above the speed limit and under the influence of alcohol may have been the main reason for the fatal accident.

The deceased's wife was at Nakhon Phanom Hospital.
